a brand new production directed by

Tinus Spies Conductor: Schalk van der Merwe

You have heard her as the Queen of the Night (Magic Flute). Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Gilda (Rigoletto), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Adéle & Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus).

Brooklyn Theatre is proud to now feature this remarkable young SA coloratura soprano, Ilze Coetzee, as Violetta in Verdi’s beloved masterpiece - La Traviata.

The tenor Filippo Adami from Florence, is a full time opera singer in Italy with a most impressive CV. Adami is a Rossini specialist and has sung leading roles in Barber of Seville, Thieving Magpie, La Cenerentola and many other Rossini operas. In addition he regularly sings in operas by Donizetti, Puccini as well as various baroque operas. Brooklyn Theatre patrons may remember that Adami performed in concert with Ilze Coetzee in Brooklyn Theatre in 2014 in Tenore Espresso.

The talented SA baritone, Douwe Bijkersma needs no introduction after his very impressive portrayal of the title role in The Barber of Seville for Brooklyn Theatre in 2016. Douwe has sung leading roles for Salon Music/Brooklyn Theatre, in Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale, Faust, The Magic Flute, Wiener Blut and Die Fledermaus among others.

The first production of La Traviata by Salon Music way back in 1999 was sold as the “Brooklyn Traviata” - the first opera in a shopping centre, staged in the Queens Park Atrium in Brooklyn Mall. The production was in Salon style with actress Jana Cilliers narrating the role of Flora. A new production of the complete La Traviata was presented in 2010 at Brooklyn Theatre.

The 2017 La Traviata will be the complete opera, sung in Italian with English subtitles. The opera will be accompanied by the Brooklyn Theatre Salon Ensemble.

The Armonia Theatre Chorus is part of this production.
